我的名字是月爱心
I
Li Hou!

My name is Luna Aixin. It means "Moon of the Loving Heart."

I am a multi-racial, trans non-binary queer, disabled, neurodivergent, racialized person with diasporic ancestries in Southeast Asia and South Pacific Islands. I was brought up culturally with a mix of island and Chinese diaspora cultures, also known as "Nusantara".

My work draws from the journeys of my lived experiences. I am drawn to creating artistic bridges that bear deep meaning for me and those I share my art with. I came from a culture of purposeful art; where art meets community needs and purposes and is not just meant for consumption.  As a descendant of diasporic ancestors, the energy of "being temporary" or "in-between" are the undercurrents to how I approach art-making - the temporal and momentary meditations on life's moments

Something that brings me lots of joy is when I can make art with community as co-creators. Some of my previous work included "Creatures of Vancouver" and "The C.R.O.C.H.E.T Project", both projects involving community members to explore the meaning of living in urban environments.

I am fascinated by the interconnections and inter-relations, the social-communal fabric, the environments that nurture and destroy communities and more importantly, how we as humxyn beings experience relationships and what we do with them. Within my practise, I engage deeply with a multitude of subjects, from racism to intergenerational trauma. I never work only on one project as I enjoy the challenge of dancing between one project to another. Like my identities, my art focus on not a singular experience but the pluralistic potentials of co-existing as communities, and as individuals.

My art evolves as I grow and learn new ways of living, being, and relating.

If you are interested in the way I experiment with what I hope to be an act of decolonizing and to honour my writing & in relation to my dyslexic brain, read this opening to my project "Cooking Post-Traumatic Savoury Dishes - Writing Style"

My artistic work is closely related to my work in the fields of community engagement, relational justice, social equity and activism, as a community planner and facilitator. I collaborate with various levels of governments and social organizations to facilitate on-the-grounds change with on-the-ground communities. Thank you for being here. I hope you find something nice.
